Keir Starmer Accuses Officials of Hiding Peter Mandelson Vetting Failure, Faces Resignation Calls
The Prime Minister Keir Starmer alleged that Foreign Office civil servants deliberately concealed the fact that Lord Mandelson did not pass the security vetting required prior to appointment as the US Ambassador. According to Sir Keir, he became aware of the matter only last week when it transpired that civil servants had disregarded the recommendation of the vetting agency to disqualify Lord Mandelson, an action which Sir Keir termed as "absolutely unforgivable." While the PM maintained that he had been unaware of the development, the opposition leader Kemi Badenoch along with others in different political parties have demanded that Sir Keir should resign since they suspect that he was lying to Parliament. His actions had been blamed on his staff in order to shirk accountability.
